What is Invisalign® Go?

A discreet way to straighten your smile.

Invisalign®️ Go is a clear-aligner treatment designed to correct many mild to moderate alignment concerns. It may be suitable for improving crowded, uneven or mildly spaced teeth and is available for either one or both arches, depending on your individual needs.
Your treatment consists of a series of custom-made, nearly invisible aligners. Each aligner applies gentle, controlled forces to gradually move your teeth towards their planned positions.

Unlike fixed braces, Invisalign aligners are removable. This means you can take them out for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing, helping you maintain your usual diet and oral-hygiene routine throughout treatment.

Treatment suitability and expected results vary between patients and will be confirmed following a full clinical assessment.

The Journey:

1. Initial consultation

Your journey begins with a free face-to-face consultation at Odiham Dental Care.
We will discuss what you would like to change about your smile, examine your teeth and explain how Invisalign treatment works. Dr Gosal will provide an initial indication of whether Invisalign Go may be suitable for you and answer any questions you may have.

2. Assessment and treatment planning

Before treatment begins, we will carry out a thorough assessment of your teeth, gums, bite and general oral health. Photographs, a digital scan or impressions, and any clinically necessary X-rays will be taken.
Dr Gosal will then create your Invisalign prescription and treatment plan. Invisalign’s ClinCheck®️ software produces a digital simulation showing the planned movement of your teeth and an indication of how your smile could look following treatment.
Dr Gosal will review this carefully with you. Once you are happy with the proposed plan and have given your consent, your custom aligners can be made.

3. Wearing your aligners

When your aligners are ready, you will attend the practice for your fitting appointment. We will check the fit, explain how to insert, remove and care for your aligners, and show you how to progress through each stage.
For treatment to work effectively, your aligners should be worn for at least 22 hours each day and removed only for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing and flossing.
You will normally attend the practice every four to six weeks so that we can monitor your tooth movement and ensure treatment is progressing as planned.

4. Completing your treatment

When you have finished wearing your aligners, Dr Gosal will assess the final result. Occasionally, additional refinement aligners may be recommended to help achieve the planned outcome.
Once treatment is complete, you will be provided with retainers to help maintain your new smile. Depending on your individual needs, these may be removable retainers, fixed retainers or a combination of both.
Retainer wear is a lifelong commitment because teeth can naturally move over time. We will explain how and when to wear your retainers and how to look after them.

FAQ’s:

Is Invisalign Go suitable for everyone?

Invisalign Go can treat many mild to moderate alignment concerns, but it is not suitable for every patient or every type of tooth movement. A clinical assessment is needed to determine whether it is the right option for you. If another treatment would be more appropriate, we will explain the alternatives.

Can Invisalign treat just my upper or lower teeth?

In some cases, treatment of a single arch may be possible. However, moving teeth in only one arch can affect the way your teeth bite together. Dr Gosal will assess your bite and advise whether single- or dual-arch treatment is most appropriate.

How noticeable are Invisalign aligners?

The aligners are made from clear material and are designed to fit closely over your teeth, making them much less noticeable than conventional fixed braces. Small tooth-coloured attachments may sometimes be required to help achieve certain movements.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Treatment time varies according to the complexity of the case, the number of aligners required and how consistently they are worn. We will provide an estimated treatment time after your assessment and treatment plan have been completed.

Does Invisalign hurt?

You may feel some pressure or mild tenderness for the first few days after fitting a new aligner. This is normal and usually settles quickly. The aligners should not cause significant or persistent pain; if they do, please contact us.

Can I eat and drink normally?

Yes. Because the aligners are removable, there are no specific food restrictions. You should remove them before eating and before drinking anything other than cool water. Brush your teeth before replacing the aligners whenever possible.

How often do I need to wear my aligners?

You should wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day. Wearing them for less than the recommended time may delay your treatment or affect the final result.

Will Invisalign affect my speech?
Some patients notice a slight lisp when they first begin wearing aligners. This usually disappears within a few days as your mouth becomes accustomed to them.

Can I have Invisalign if I have fillings, crowns or dental implants?

This depends on their position and the tooth movements required. Existing dental work does not necessarily prevent Invisalign treatment, but it must be carefully considered during planning. Dental implants cannot be moved with aligners.

Do I need to see a hygienist before treatment?

Your teeth and gums must be healthy before Invisalign treatment begins. Any active dental disease, including tooth decay or gum disease, will need to be treated first. We may recommend a professional hygiene appointment before or during treatment.

Is teeth whitening included?

Professional teeth whitening is included on completion of your Invisalign treatment and is subject to clinical suitability. Whitening is only available to patients aged 18 or over.

Why do I need retainers?

Teeth have a natural tendency to move throughout life, including after orthodontic treatment. Retainers help hold your teeth in their corrected positions and protect the result you have achieved. Long-term, usually lifelong, retainer wear is therefore essential.

What happens if I lose or damage an aligner?

Contact the practice as soon as possible. Depending on your stage of treatment, we may advise you to wear your previous aligner, move to the next one or arrange a replacement. Replacement aligners may incur an additional charge.
